Anounced in early 2026, the new LEGO® SMART Play™ represents the biggest innovation since the original minifigures way back in 1978. It represents almost a decade of trial, error and testing to come up with a new way to bring life to the humble LEGO brick.
LEGO wanted to find a way to engage with new audiences, without the need for screens. Through a number of prototypes and a lot of testing, the SMART Brick was born. The same size as the classic 2x4 stud brick and only slightly taller, this mighty brick packs a range of sensors that, when paired with SMART Tags and SMART Minifigures, can introduce lights, sounds and reactions that change from set to set.

What's included in the LEGO SMART Play sets?
There are two ways to play with the all-new LEGO SMART Play system. The All-in-One sets come with everything you need to get started. You'll find your play set, SMART Brick, SMART charger, SMART Tags and SMART Minifigures. These sets are ideal for starting your adventure into LEGO SMART Play.
Compatible sets allow you to build your collection of play sets. These come with the play set, SMART Tags and SMART Minifigures. You can add the SMART Brick from other All-in-One sets to bring them to life!

Does it require batteries?
The SMART Brick has built-in batteries that do need wirelessly charging from time to time. When you buy one of the All-in-One play sets, you'll find the new yellow wireless charger included in the box. Plug it into a USB outlet or plug and you'll be charging your SMART Bricks in no time.
Is it compatible with all LEGO sets?
The SMART Brick is the perfect size and shape to easily fit into any existing or future LEGO sets, not just SMART Play Compatible sets. You will need to buy an All-in-One playset to get everything you need to start playing, and a compatible set or two to expand your collection of SMART Tags and SMART Minifigures to unlock the capabilities of the SMART Brick.
