Safety tips

We want Santa to be safe while he dashes through the snow to deliver all the gifts...

  • Don't leave Christmas lights running when you go to bed at night, or when you leave the house.
  • Don't use tacks, nails or screws to hang lights, which can pierce the cable and become electrified. Go for insulated hooks instead.
  • If bulbs have burned out replace them right away, but make sure you use the correct wattage bulbs.
  • Save Santa from falls by keeping cables tucked away so that they're not a trip hazard.

Frequently asked questions about Christmas decorations

For Christmas decorating themes, you could go classic with red, green, and gold. Or, go for an elegant look using soft and comfy textures with neutrals and welcoming warm tones.

How can I decorate my home for Christmas on a budget?

When it comes to Christmas decs, a little can go a long way. You can use timeless wreaths and cute table decorations or cutouts to liven up your space. Simple additions like colourful baubles or tree lights can help bring a festive feel.

What are some unique Christmas decoration ideas?

Fancy something different? Explore pretty hanging decorations, Christmas tableware, and Christmas themed bedding for touches that bring the look together. While you're at it, try from outdoor decorations that will brighten up your decor.

How do I tastefully decorate my house for Christmas?

Decorating for Christmas is all about going with what you find nice. Have fun with decoration and keep it easy by picking a theme that works for you. Whether you're keeping it chic and classy or prefer pops of colour, we've got a variety of decorations for you.

How do I decorate my house outside for Christmas?

Outdoor Christmas decorations include everything from path finders and inflatable decorations to outdoor lights. Use a wreath or garland to make it even more inviting.

How to decorate a Christmas tree?

Decorating a Christmas tree is all about building up the layers. Start with your Christmas tree lights first, weaving them evenly from top to bottom. Next, add baubles and hanging decorations, placing larger ornaments deeper into the branches for extra depth. Finish with garlands, ribbons and a tree topper, then step back and tweak until everything feels balanced. Whether you love a coordinated colour scheme or a cheerful mix of family favourites, the best Christmas tree is one that reflects your style.

How many baubles do I need for the tree?

As a guide, 80 baubles should cover a 6ft tree nicely, but it also comes down to personal taste. A minimalist approach can work well, as can a tree bursting with baubles! Start from the middle of the tree and work outwards to avoid knocking any baubles off, and mix up different sizes and colours to add interest.

How many lights do I need for the tree?

Roughly speaking, we recommend about 80 lights per foot of height - so about 480 lights for a 6ft tree. Remember to measure how far the tree will be from the plug socket and make sure the lead length between plug and decoration is long enough.

When do Christmas decorations come down?

Traditionally, Christmas decorations come down on Twelfth Night, which falls on 5 January, marking the end of the festive season. However, many people take their decorations down sooner, while others leave them up a little longer to enjoy the cosy glow. There’s no set rule, so choose a date that works for you and your household. Just remember to safely pack away your Christmas decorations to keep them looking their best for next year.
