Purchased a pair of these. On getting them home only one worked, the other had been wired incorrectly. Unfortunately they were out of stock at the Argos branch they were purchased from so had to travel to a store where they were in stock. Asked to try the replacements before we left the shop. Luckily both worked.

To be perfectly honest, having now seen these lamps in-person, the base does read brassy but not overly so - a truly neutral metal, WITHOUT the warmth of gold OR all the way brightness of silver either. For anyone buying these based solely on the colours shown in the online photos, it may be better to ask to be able to open the packaging and see inside when purchasing, so you can return it then and there if need be.
