Absolutely great doorbell, so easy to set up and put on door frame outside, this was bought for my 82yr old Mam and it's that good my sister and I are going to get one for ourselves. We have put the sound part in her lounge and turned the volume up for her. Different ring tones and volume settings. Highly recommend.

This happened to me too. The instructions are pretty useless.
This worked for me. You have to use gentle force to make the tip of the metal electrode clip which lies across middle of the circular area lie a bit lower and also there is a smaller electrode clip at the edge which may need to be squashed against the side wall a bit more.
Then the lid should be able to close.

Having checked I can see you need to pop the push bell from the housing unit and you will be able to replace the battery. Please see instructions below:
