Designed by and exclusive to Habitat, the slatted fronts of the Max range were inspired by louvred doors.

I do love the look and design of this ... though it needed sanding and fishing (doors needed wood oil as looked "raw". Many of the assembly parts were missing, or the wrong size, so it took ages to get together, the last bits being the doors, which are very heavy and very flimsy lock hinges are supplied and virtually impossible to align as hinge sizes vary and the assembly pamphlets don't indicate thus, so you have to work it out. I really would advise that if you're not a DYI pro, to get someone to change the hinges foe you l, else you'll never get the doors to align. Because it is such a nice looking piece, I'd recommend the effort though, and to only buy when on sale :)

Very elegant
I purchased this item to match with the TV cabinet. It took a little while to put together but the end result is pleasing. The one criticism is the hinges are not really adequate for the weight of the door's, whilst they were not flimsy I replaced them with much better quality one's. Overall pleased. I have also purchased a toughened glass top to protect the wood. Overall I am happy with this.

Good looking cabinet
Great looking cabinet but took me hours to work out how the doors fit due to different sized hinges which are not shown in the instructions. So had to take apart and line up all the screws and then realised 3 were a different size! Concerned about the wood treatment as just wiping it down with a cloth has marked it. Think it needs oiling?

LOVE IT!
I'm a BIG fan of the Max range already (from the original Habitat range - not the dreadful new Argos rebadged Habitat furniture). Already have smaller Max sideboard and TV unit. Bought this on special offer - I noticed it's now almost twice the price!!! - so do watch when you buy. Easy to build, straightening doors a little tricky, but not too bad. Looks great, nice build quality for the price. Recommended.

Great unit, but......
Easy to build and looks great, here's the but. As has been said in other reviews the hinges are a little too flimsy but after adjusting them a few times they seem to be better aligned (I think I will have a look for some more sturdy ones at a later date) and the other gripe is the finish on the top, it's just not quite smooth when built. I gave it a very light rub with some very fine sand paper and that did the job.

Thanks for your query about the Max Low Sideboard.
You can leave the door off if you wish as the doors are not structural parts of the frame, they're just hinged and fixed on to the frame.
The shelf heights are adjustable so you could change the height to fit the hi-fi equipment but, if it's too tall, just as with the doors, the shelves are not structural. They just sit on pegs so you could leave one or more of them out if need be.

I can advise the following for the Habitat Max Low Sideboard:
This isn't suitable, it will void the warranty as it's classed as a modification. However, you would need to sand first and use the correct type paint to allow it to adhere/cover correctly.

The two shelves at either end are adjustable. ”
