Hungry like a Wolf.
I am so happy with this machine. having read other reviews, mostly positive I went ahead and purchased it. it is a marvel, it chomps away at almost everything, sure it does like wet green leaves, but let them dry for a day or two and it will eat them like a wolf who hasn't been fed in a week. feed it slowly and it will take almost every thing, just stick to the width guidance, and empty often. it was easy to set up, and easier to use.

Good shredder
Purchase last week on offer at £170. Seems to work very well on Dryer wood I haven’t tried it with fresh cuttings. Probably best to let cuttings dry out before chucking them in. I didn’t bother screwing the shredder to the frame as I store it in the box as it was delivered which saves on space, although it does make it difficult to manoeuvre due to the weight.

Does as expected
Does exactly as I expected. Doesn’t like green leaves but if you leave them to dry out it’s fine. With trial and error, you soon learn what it can or can’t do. I will add that, although it says it will cut up to 40mm, it’s all according to the hardness of the wood. Think it would struggle with oak.

Great value for money
Considered hiring but went for this as we will have a lot of use. Great value for money chops everything not as small as I thought but that’s fine. Reduces garden waste substantially. Bought spear and Jackson before so happy with quality. Capacity is great, surprisingly quiet for a large garden tool

Great machine that does the job
Had 3 large piles of small branches and weeds. Took me ages to try and cut them down to get them into the green bins. This machine crunched them without a problem. Extremely pleased that I bought it - is now the best gardening tool that I own.

Excellent shredder, very capable and quiet
Excellent shredder, self feeds and easily handles 30-40mm branches (subject to material) I feed forsythia branches complete with leaves and smaller branches in one go with no problem. Very quiet compared to cheap units.

Unfit for purpose
Had to return for a refund as the pressure plate sheared off in the first 10 minutes of use with light garden waste. I spent longer building it than using it before it broke irreparably. Very poor design and quality.

Fuss free Shredding
Very quiet compared to the one it replaces which although in warranty is horrendously loud and clogs for a living. This one is bigger quieter with a good box to capture the chippings . Not as finely chopped as other types but handles thick branches with ease ..Was very impressed my entire Christmas tree went through it in around 20 min no stops to unblock and no fuss .
Happy shredder
Brilliant
Absolutely brilliant so impressed with this shredder I had a mountain of garden rubbish and it was done in no time. Pulled branches in with ease.

The dryer the better.
Hello there,
After checking with our supplier, they have advised for the Spear & Jackson S28ES Crushing Quiet Garden Shredder - 2800W: ''No it is not vital that the branches are completely dry, but it is better if they are. Wet material may be more likely to clog the cutting wheel.''
Hope this helps.
Thank you for using Q & A.
This machine looks similar to the one sold by B and Q.I have found that it handles laurel branches effortlessly, however if there is a lot of top leaf growth it can sometimes cause blockage, resulting in having to remove the end cover to clear it Laurel leaves are slightly sticky .
Hi Kaz,
The Spear & Jackson S28ES Crushing Quiet Garden Shredder - 2800W easily tackle garden waste up to 42mm in diameter. The crushing action powers a rotating drum that pulls the garden waste in where it is crushed into chippings or mulch, as long as the laurel is no thicker than 42mm diameter it will be fine.

Is the box closed properly as otherwise the machine will not work? Don't have any other suggestion.
Hi Jerry.
The Spear & Jackson S28ES Crushing Quiet Garden Shredder - 2800W is intended for tackling garden waste such as hardwoods and dry branches.
It is not intended for softer plant matter e.g. leaves, so is likely not suitable for your needs.
Thank you for using Q&A.
This brilliant machine will cut anything up to 6 CMS in diameter, green or brown. Just be patient with feeding material thorough the machine.
Not sure if you'll be able to feed weeds into the shedder if you can it'll deal with them as long as they are thick enough
