Great product, good value for money and easy to use
A little goes a long way and very easy to apply (I have used the same tin on several pieces of furniture and still have loads left). Seems to make a big difference to help protect paintwork but doesn’t alter finish - once dried and lightly buffed it can’t be seen.

Rustoleum finishing wax
I use the Rustoleum finishing wax for my furniture upcycles/refurbishments but had been struggling to find it recently. Argos had it in stock for next day pick up at a reasonable price as well.

Dries nice and protects
I bought this a few weeks back to coat some drift would I'd collected and dried out. I used the wood as shelves, fixed to walls. The advantage this had over varnish and oil is that it didn't darken or leave a sheen on the wood. It enhanced it and almost made it slightly lighter. Which was great. I found application was better if the tin had been sat in a pan of warm water to soften the wax inside the tin. The wax can be applied with a rag or paint brush.

Works well, massive tin
Makes a nice job of the paint-like stuff it covers, but you only use a bit of wax, so the tin is huge.

Hello Ruby,
After checking with our supplier, they have advised for the Rust-Oleum Finishing Wax Matt Paint 400ml - Clear: ''Rust-Oleum Finishing Wax can be used on bare timber, however, if the fireplace is working, the customer will need to check what temperature the area reaches before use. We recommend no more than 60°C.
Before application, please make sure the surface is clean, dry and free from anything that can interfere with adhesion.
I hope this helps but please contact technical support if you have further questions.
The information supplied is given in good faith based on the information provided, but without warranty. A test area should be carried out to ensure the products meets the individual requirements of the project.''
Thank you for using Q & A.
Hi Dan,
After checking with our supplier, they have advised for the Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax 400ml : The Rust-Oleum Finishing Wax is recommended for use over the Chalky Finish Furniture paint only. The Matt Furniture paint is a finish in its own right and does not require any additional protection.
The issue with it chipping off easily is most likely because of surface contamination i.e. something on the surface that is preventing it form doing its job and adhering to the surface. Our best recommendation would be to remove any paint that is loose and feather the edges smooth. Clean the surface thoroughly, the Zinsser Universal Degreaser & Cleaner is excellent for this. Alternatively try hot soapy water then rinse with fresh warm water to remove detergent and when dry a good wipe with methylated spirit. Once this has been done and the surface has dried you can then re-apply the Matt Furniture paint.

Hi Beth55,
The Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax 400ml - Clear should cover the paint that is already applied to the furniture. If the wax is not covering all of the paint, more may need to be applied?
Thank you for using Argos Q&A.
Hello there,
The Rust-Oleum Weathered Wood is a stand- alone product, designed to produce a weathered matt finish for bare timber, it does not normally require a protective finish to be applied over it.
We have not tested the Rust-Oleum Furniture Finish Wax over the Weathered Wood Finish, as the Rust-Oleum Furniture Finish Wax is intended for use with the Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint.
We would not expect there to be any issues with regards to compatibility of these two products but as it is untested we cannot offer any guarantees, a test on an inconspicuous area would be recommended to ensure the product meets the requirements of the project and achieves the finish you wish to achieve.
Thank you for using Argos Q&A.

Thank you for using Argos Q&A.
Certainly...I’ve just made this cabinet and used on the chalk paint and the naked wood including the bars and rivets also. It’s has a great after feel and finish all in one. Easy to apply with brunch or rag, can be multi-coated and polished, 100s of uses on various finishes.
Rezzillo Recycle
Yes you can.
As long as the paint is Matt finish and not silk it will be absorbed.
You can also make your own chalk paint, I use ground chalk and bicarbonate mix and an old electric hand mixer in a round sided mixing bowl to ensure an even mix. It doesn’t store as well as the shop bought, but if your using a pallet of colours it works out much cheaper. Mix enough first time and remember the white will weaken the original Matt paint colour so start off with bold colours.
Hello there,
The Rust-Oleum Finishing Wax should be used with the Rust-Oleum Chalky Furniture Paint to seal and protect paint surface. We are unable to recommend it to be used with basic emulsions as the paint is very different to chalky and will not absorb the wax in the the same way.
Thank you for using Argos Q&A.
