It uses a single E14 small edison screw LED bulb up to 6 watts, so you can pick the right brightness for your needs. It's not sold specifically as a reading lamp though and the brightness would depend on factors like your chosen bulb wattage (up to that 6 watt maximum) and the distance it is away from the place you'd be reading.
