The finials are different end sizes, I have absolutely no idea why it makes no sense whatsoever, had to hunt through the bin to find the piece of black plastic mentioned in previous answers to pad the end out, it is quite frankly the most ridiculous item I have ever purchased !!!!

The marble finials fit snugly on the ends of the pole and can be further tightened by the grub screw in the finial.
