Recently used an inch of this to cover stains and writing before paint and it made these problems invisible- perfectly opaque.

After checking with our supplier, they have advised for Johnstone's ABC Primer Matt Paint - Brilliant White - 100ml.
This is a water‑based primer, which is touch‑dry in approximately 30 minutes and fully dry in around 3 hours.
Please note that drying times can vary depending on environmental conditions. Do not apply the product if temperatures are below 10°C.

For any cracks, I would recommend using a fine surface filler and following the instructions on the packaging to achieve the best results.
Please note that paint or primer cannot act as a filler.
