VERY LOUD
Bought a few months ago, powered by 2x batteries, VERY LOUD AND SHARP - SOUNDS LIKE A FIRE ALARM! Very effective, haha! Love that you can press a button to see the time in the dark. Only downsides would be that there is no 'sleep' button and the OFF switch is small and can be hard to find.

I bought this particular Acctim double bell alarm as I had got so used to my old Acctim clock that I used to sleep through the alarm going off. It just wasn’t loud enough. I had to be up very early the day after purchasing so just to be sure I set two alarms. It was my new clock that worked perfectly. It doesn’t make a ticking sound and the alarm is loud enough to wake even the heaviest of sleepers. I love the bronze colour too - it matches me bedroom decor. I’m really pleased with my purchase.

I can advise the following for the Acctim Aksel Double Bell Alarm Clock Black:
Controls are on the rear to turn the alarm on and off, but you are correct in that the hammer does hit the bells when the alarm goes off.

The supplier has advised the following for the Acctim Aksel Double Bell Alarm Clock Black:
"When your morning alarm sounds, simply slide the Alarm ON/OFF switch to Off to turn it off. Before going to bed, slide the switch back to On to make sure your alarm is set and ready for the next morning." So you don't set it to AM or PM.
