Customers Say
This microchip cat flap effectively keeps unwanted cats out and allows programmed cats access. Installation and programming are generally easy, but the loud clicking noise and size can deter some cats initially.

Cats struggling to get used to it
We fitted this to replace a previous cat flap without the microchip function. A neighbourhood cat has become a regular midnight visitor and so we had to get the cats used to this new one. It was fitted 10 days ago with just a little extra cutting/drilling. One cat is still pretty much refusing to use it to come in (sits outside looking very sad and mewing incessantly). She times it so she runs in when we get home instead then won't go out unless totally desperate. The other two use it but sometimes struggle to get it to open. The cat's head has to be through the hole and wait a couple of seconds before it clicks so they are really confused about why it won't open when they first push the door and often back off because it won't open, then miss the click to get in. I don't understand why the manufacturers couldn't have made it quieter. It's so loud. I'm sure the cats will eventually get used to it. It really has been tough love with them.

Easy to program
Replaced my old pet safe cat flap with this microchip one. Only complaint is the screw holes were in a slightly different place so had to drill another one. Different cats since then so going through the training stage again. Easy to program

Good piece of kit. Cat happy!
Purchased cat flap. Install was ok. Nervous that I was cutting a hole in the door if the cat would not use it ! Luckily with a bit of ham and coaxing she does use it. Sync with Cat chip was easy. Fluff around outside of plastic door is ok therefore does not let too much cold in. Make sure you measure cat height before drilling hole in door. Make sure you can use jigsaw to cuts straight and has the correct blade for your door. I used white silicone to fill the holes and gaps. Would recommend.

Does what it says on the tin. Recommended.
Bought the same cat flap we had put in 18 months ago. The last one stopped working and we like the functionality of reading the cats chip. It's not smart which is a downside, but it works well for what it does.

Works a Treat.
Bought this to replace manual cat flap as neighbour's cat kept coming in and eating my cat's food and causing fights. My husband fitted to existing hole and it was very easy to register his chip. What I did like was being able to check on website that chip and flap were compatible before buying because he has a Spanish chip - which they were!

Hi Max,
The PetSafe Microchip Cat Flap will come with a glass adaptor accessory which will be needed for proper installation of the Microchip Cat Flap.
Thank you for using Q&A.
Hello Whitey,
I can advise the following for the PetSafe Microchip Cat Flap:
Yes, to ensure the pet is safe as it creates a tunnel for the cat to safely walk on.
Thanks for using Q & A.
Hello there,
After checking with our supplier, they have advised for the PetSafe Microchip Cat Flap: It depends how quick the cats chip is scanned, if the cat is not in the correct position it will take longer.
It take 8 seconds for the latches to close once open.
Thank you for using Q&A.
Hello DPB,
The supplier has advised the following for the PetSafe Microchip Cat Flap:
“ The tunnel is 72 mm long and cannot be shortened as it contains the scanning coil to read the microchip. Fitting it through a 60 mm inuslated timber door should be no problem but the customer should examine the shavings of the first drill holes for metal. Some insulation materials use aluminium foil which would then mean the door is metal containing and the oversized cutout of 250 mm must be made as per cutting template and use the install adaptor. ”
Thanks for using Q&A.
Hello Lau.
PetSafe Microchip Cat Flap:
This requires four alkaline AA batteries (LR6) for operation. Batteries are not included with your cat flap. Please use new, non-rechargeable batteries for best results.
Thank you for using Q&A.

Hi Jowd,
PetSafe Microchip Cat Flap
The PetSafe® Microchip Cat Flap is designed to work with most 15-digit microchips (FDX-B) used for pets so you would need a 15 digit pin to be able to use this cat flap.
Thanks for using Q&A.
Hi There,
PetSafe Microchip Cat Flap
Having checked I can see this would not be able to be used with the same hole as the 280EF as the hole required for this is 260mm compared to the 228 mm needed for the 280EF so you would need to widen it.
Thanks for using Q&A.
Hi Maureen,
If the PetSafe Microchip Cat Flap malfunctions, it depends on the nature of the malfunction. Here are a few scenarios:
Power Failure: If the batteries die or there’s a power issue, the flap will typically default to an unlocked state, allowing your cat to get in and out freely.
Mechanical Jam: If the flap gets stuck or jammed, it might prevent entry or exit. Regular maintenance, like cleaning the flap and checking for obstructions, can help prevent this.
For peace of mind, it’s a good idea to regularly check the batteries and clean the flap to ensure it functions properly.
Thank you for using Q&A
Mine has always worked fine so I don't know, sorry. The only malfunction I can think of is if the batteries run out so the microchip reader doesn't work.
