Great little sweeper
Works well on carpet with crumbs, not so good on hard floors but does pick up something. Has a nice rubber edging top stop damaging furniture (especially when your toddler decides he's going to sweep up). Long enough handle and we are pretty tall people. The handle was a bit tricky to screw together but just needed a little patience.

The handle on the Bissell 2314E Sturdy Sweep Manual Floor Sweeper does detach. It comes in sections that screw together, until all sections are either used or desired height reached.

The sturdy sweeper will perform better on flat surfaces due to its design. It would pick up larger pieces on an uneven surface, but it will struggle with small pieces (crumbs) in dips in the flooring.
With regards to this being compact and fit for travel, the handle can be removed at 2 points so it is reduced down to a compactable size.
