"The diameter of the rail is 16mm." (I can confirm that this is the thickness they're referring to here as you requested).

The hooks r very strong so if ur screws were to be abit longer. I cant see why not
Yes. I used a pipe cutter to get a 90 degree end cut to avoid any sharp edges. The threaded insert is levered out off the cut-off end after making a relieving parallel cut in the tube. The insert is re-bonded, Araldited, back into the shortened tube and is a tight fit even after filing off the old bonding to suit. I also tightened the tube end of each hook to stop them annoyingly lifting off the tube as a utensil is lifted from its hook. This item is well engineered and structurally sound.

This item is not designed to be cut as this can leave damaged/sharp edges which could cause injury. Also altering the item will void the warranty.
