The lid does not provide a completely airtight or watertight seal. However, if you're planning to use these boxes outdoors, we classify them as water-resistant rather than watertight.

After checking with our supplier, they have advised for the Really Useful 18 Litre Plastic Storage Box: The box height is from the bottom to the top with the lid on if you are to measure the external.

The internal measurements are from the bottom of the base of the box to the top without the lid been on the box.

Handles sit in line with the box lid when closed.

Ive used these outside for extended periods, including times when they were snow covered. They kept the contents clean and dry. However, sunlight did make the tops somewhat brittle so that if something were dropped on them, or if I was a little careless when stacking them it could be cracked or broken. It is possible to order replacement lids. Im still using them outside.

After checking with our supplier, they have advised for the Really Useful 18 Litre Plastic Storage Box: Our boxes were originally designed for archive office use, over the last 20 years they have also been successfully kept in garages, attics and cellars.

The plastic is the same as buckets and bowls (polypropylene), if this material is left outdoors indefinitely, or exposed to sunlight or very cold temperatures, the molecules can eventually breakdown which is the nature of the material, so we cannot guarantee what will happen to boxes if left outside over long periods of time.

Yes they would be suitable for freezing but the boxes are not manufactured in a ‘food safe’ environment though many people do use these boxes for this purpose. Obviously over time (years) plastic will become brittle with extreme cold and heat so bear that in mind too. All items have a working temperature of -15°C to +80°C.

You would be able to stack a box of the same size on top, you would also be able to stack other boxes that was to fit in the groove.

E.G 1 x9L or 2 x 5L
