Seems to do the business!
Bought this paint as I had damp staining coming through the plaster in my kitchen leaving dark stains and making a white wall look terrible. Cleaned up stains previously with your regular kitchen cleaners but these were only a temporary measure but the damp kept coming back. After cleaning up the wall I applied this paint which covered quite well, certain areas had been taken back to the bare plaster as the emulsion had bubbled up and was flaking off…it needed 2 coats in certain areas but did cover quite well. The wall is now ready for your regular top coat of emulsion its looking good and is ready for the top coat. So far so good it had done a good job in patching up what was looking quite bad and grubby where the damp was present. Looking far cleaner ready for silk emulsion top coat being applied tomorrow. Only time will tell how well this will perform in holding back the damp but as it stands it has worked well. Be warned this paint absolutely stinks for hours as its very strong, its also cleaned up with turps/white spirit not water. Hope this helps and good luck in the fight against damp!

Damp proof paint
Had some damp on inside of external wall and this was perfect,I only needed to do one coat and then normal emulsion on top. Smell wasn’t as bad as some reviews state,I just opened a window while painting,it just smelt like normal paint

Magical paint!
I had a small patch of damp which had dried out and when I emulsioned over it the stains just shown through. I only use johnstons paints and purchased their DAMP paint and after just one coat I was able to use my chosen emulsion to paint over it and there’s no trace of any stains whatsoever 😊 I knew I could rely on johnstons 👏

Hello Max,
The supplier has advised the following for the Johnstone's Damp Matt Paint 750ml - White:
"If the paint is blistering on the surface this indicates that there is an issue with the surface. This needs to be identified and sorted before trying other coatings.
I would suggest that if previous products have blistered this will too.
Without more information, it is very difficult to give the customer any further advise."

Hi Gazza,
Johnstone's Damp Matt Paint 750ml - White 858/9011
Johnstone's Damp Matt Paint can be applied to brick, cement, plaster and concrete and is effective when used as a waterproof layer under a render or to cover up damp stains on painted areas. It is particularly good for treating rooms which are naturally moist, such as kitchens and bathrooms.
Thank you for using Q&A
It says on it that the paintbrushes need to be washed in white spirit.
It says its oil-based not water based.
Hi Summer,
Yes, you should wash your brush in water after using Johnstone's Damp Matt Paint 750ml - White. This paint is water-based, so cleaning your brush with water is effective.

Hi Mark

Thanks for using Q&A.
Hello Mick 21,
The supplier has advised the following for the Johnstone's Damp Matt Paint 750ml - White:
“ I would advise against this. Damp proof paint is designed for isolated areas of damp. This sounds like an extensive damp issue that needs to be resolved before any coating is applied. Regarding the plaster, plaster top coating is designed to adhere and bind to other plaster substrates, brick, and hard core. It isn’t inherently designed to adhere to solvent based freshly applied paints. I would advise consulting the manufacturer of the plaster. ”
Thanks for using Q&A.
