Misleading product
My son got his birthday money and chose to buy this. I was unaware that you could not buy the smart bricks separately, this should be clearly shown on the product that you are unable too do so and thay the only way you can get the smart bricks is by buying the more expensive smart LEGO sets. Very disappointed in Lego.

Overpriced for what it is
There is nothing smart about this set. My son was very disappointed to find out that there was no smart brick included in the set. He saw the Smart Play logo and didn't notice the small 'compatible' print under the logo. It wouldn't be so bad if you could order a smart brick separately so that you can use the set as intended, but the only way to get one is to buy one of the ridiculously priced sets that actually have them. Not impressed, this feels like a mean marketing trick.

My kids loved it
Can see plenty of negativity around these bets, but we went in-store this weekend to pick up these sets and my kids had a great time building them and playing with the cool features!

SMART Play™ All-In-One sets contain everything you need to start your SMART Play experience, right out of the box. They contain SMART Minifigures, SMART Tags, a wireless SMART charger and... drumroll please... the SMART Bricks! This brick is the brains of the operation. It responds to how it is being moved through the air, and reacts to how it is being played with. When combined with SMART Tags and SMART Minifigures, they help tell the SMART Brick how it should play back.

We have, however, created a SMART Play app for parents. The LEGO SMART Assist app is the companion app for adults to manage and maximize the potential of LEGO SMART Bricks. It helps you control SMART Brick settings, update new play features and get quick help when you need it. It’s an app for grown-ups to get the most out of the SMART Play experience, so that kids can keep on playing.
Yes. The SMART Bricks, SMART Minifigures and SMART Tags can be combined with any LEGO® sets we’ve ever made (and ever will make). It’s not a ‘new’ System in Play, but an evolution of it. However, to get your hands on these SMART Play™ elements, you’ll need to buy one of the LEGO SMART Play sets we’ve released them in. There are two types of SMART Play sets: SMART Play All-In-One sets and SMART Play Compatible sets. Our SMART Play All-In-One sets contain the SMART Brick, SMART Tags, SMART Minifigures and everything else you need to unlock the full SMART Play experience. Our SMART Play Compatible sets contain great LEGO building play on their own, and contain SMART Tags and SMART Minifigures which are compatible with the SMART Brick (available in All-in-One sets).
The SMART Brick can sense the presence of SMART Tags and SMART Minifigures that are close to it. These activate the SMART Brick and tell it how to behave. Once activated, the high-tech SMART Bricks react to every move, with a built-in play engine that creates limitless reactions with dynamic lights and sounds. To get started, you’ll need up to three key pieces that work together to create the LEGO® SMART Play™ system: the SMART Bricks, the SMART Tags and the SMART Minifigures. For example, out of the literally endless potential play possibilities... Build a helicopter and place a helicopter SMART Tag into it. Add a SMART Brick close to the SMART Tag. Now your SMART Brick ‘becomes’ a helicopter and reacts to how you move and play with dynamic lights and sounds! Hear it take off and fly – or fly it upside down and hear the alarm sound. Add a SMART Minifigure pilot and hear them react!
