Excellent alternative to petrol
I bought this to replace a worn out 15-year-old McCullough petrol chain saw which I used for domestic cutting. Out of the box, I was first impressed with the quality feel of the chainsaw. It is made specially for Sainsbury/Argos and so the instructions are in English, full and clear with plenty of useful guidance. The extension cord is good quality flex with a neat little hook inside the handle to prevent tugging on the connector. I stuck with a 40cm blade as these should be easier to source. The replacement guide bar and chain Oregon 160SDEA041 and 91PJ056X are easy to find online. The power is the same as my previous chainsaw but is much quieter. In use the saw is not particularly heavy but feels solid, it cuts through logs with easy (I have now used it for several weeks and have cut through loads collected over winter ranging from 30cm to 10cm in diameter. I haven't needed to sharpen the blade yet. It lubricates well, is easy to adjust and easy to clean out the guide bar. Overall very impressed, so far. The only thing of note is that the individual cutting links are 3 to 1 rather tha the usual 2 to 1 (the replacement looks like 3 to 1). It makes no difference to the cutting experience.

Hello Emma,
After checking with our supplier, they have advised for the McGregor 40cm Electric Chainsaw - 1800W: ''If in any doubt about the suitability of the tool for any particular task, an expert should be consulted.
It is not recommended to use the chainsaw at ground level, due to the increased risk of catching.
This could cause kickback or debris/stones to be launched by the blade, both of which can cause serious injury to the user or others.
Touching the ground will also dull the chain, making the tool less effective and the work harder.
The intended use of the tool is to cut logs, branches or tree trunk at an accessible height, not a stump in the ground.''
