After checking with the manufacturer, I can confirm that this Nintendo Switch Power Adaptor has a USB Type C connector and the Nintendo DS lite needs an adaptor with a Micro USB connector.

Pull the USB c for the docking station out and use that
Hi Swithers, there are numerous portable chargers available one I've found really useful is an extended battery pack that clips on and extends the battery life by about 3 hours play time,
Also the mains adaptor that is powering your docking station will also allow you to take it and charge the console without the dock, you can also purchase in car chargers too hope it helps

You do not require the docking station to charge the console, just an Nintendo Switch USB C cable.
