Compatible with earlier TP Link extenders
Bought May 2026. Instantly available in the Sainsburys store after purchase. Very good all round, assuring Internet connectivity. Yet to test the WiFi range though; it should be more than adequate.

It solved a big problem.
I have just changed my Internet provider to Vodafone but without paying for their booster. I ended up with poor coverage of WiFi in the house and the TV was dropping out on iPlayer etc. I tried several different Range Extenders but none would pair with the Vodafone Router. My last gambit was this Powerline Adaptor. It was easy to install and set up and it fixed my TV problem and also covers the rest of the house with it's built-in WiFi extender. Job Done! Family happy!

Hi,
To form a basic Powerline network, it must be deployed in a set of two or more and be connected to the same electrical circuit whether wired or wireless ones. In other words, your first floor and ground floor need to be on the same electrical circuit.
Thanks for using Q&A.
Hello WilkyD,
After checking with our supplier, they have advised for the TP-Link TL-WPA4220 KIT AV600 Powerline Adapter Wi-Fi Booster: ''Since the TL-WPA4220T begins with TL-WPA, it has Wi-Fi capability. This means the extender unit plugged in your bedroom can provide internet access in two ways:
1. Wirelessly via Wi-Fi – Your devices (phone, laptop, tablet, etc.) can connect to the extender's Wi-Fi network without any cables.
2. Via Ethernet cable – You can also plug a wired device (like a desktop PC or smart TV) directly into the extender using a network cable.
So to summarize your setup:
• Main unit: Plugged into a wall socket and connected to your router via Ethernet cable.
• Extender unit (bedroom): Plugged into a wall socket — your devices can connect to it either wirelessly or with a cable. No mandatory wired connection required.''
Thank you for using Q and A.
Hello Rach664.
TP-Link TL-WPA4220 KIT AV600 Powerline Adapter Wi-Fi Booster:
The booster shouldn’t get hot, but it’s normal for them to feel warm to the touch.
Thank you for using Q & A.
Hello Shirl,
The supplier has advised the following for the TP-Link TL-WPA4220 KIT AV600 Powerline Adapter Wi-Fi Booster:
"TP-Link Powerline adapters are designed to work in pairs or more, so it is possible to add a second extender unit to your setup. You should have at least two Powerline products to build a Powerline network, but you can add additional extenders as long as they all connect to the same main adapter (base unit) and are plugged into outlets on the same electrical circuit. Each extender unit (like TL-WPA4220) will boost the Wi-Fi signal in its location and can provide Ethernet access via its LAN ports. For Wi-Fi, you can configure both extenders to use the same SSID so devices can roam seamlessly across rooms.
To set up, connect the main adapter to your router via Ethernet cable, then plug each extender unit into a power outlet where you need coverage, press the pair button on all devices within one minute to connect them, and configure Wi-Fi SSID as desired. This way, both extender units can share the same SSID and provide Ethernet access in different rooms."
Thank you for using Q&A.
Hi Ddan,
Yes, but you need to ensure that all TL-WPA4220 kits are on the same electrical circuit. We recommend that you plug both the adapter and extender into the wall socket.
Thanks for using Q&A.
Hi Ddan,
TP-Link TL-WPA4220 KIT AV600 Powerline Adapter Wi-Fi Booster 558/5575
The supplier has advised:
Typically, there are 3 types of WiFi boosters in the market, meeting various network demands.
1. Range extenders (repeaters), with powerful amplifiers and antennas, can boost an existing WiFi network by receiving the wireless signals from your router and repeating them, extending signal coverage by up to twice the range.
Note: We recommend that you purchase and use an extender with the same Wi-Fi protocol as your router.
2. Powerline Adapters (PLC), different from range extenders and Mesh WiFi, powerline adapters transmit data and extend your home network coverage using existing electrical wiring. With powerline adapters, thick walls and ceilings aren’t a problem anymore.
3. Mesh WiFi, If you’ve added multiple network nodes but are still encountering WiFi dead zones while walking around your home, you should consider Mesh WiFi solutions. These are built to eliminate dead zones and provide uninterrupted WiFi throughout your home. A whole-home Mesh network system secures network speed and reliability in every corner of your home, no matter whether you are in the basement or on the rooftop, you can enjoy stable WiFi with seamless roaming.

Thank you for using Q&A
Hi,
A powerline adapter needs to be connected to your router via an Ethernet cable, while a powerline extender can be placed where you need to extend your network. However, please note that your upstairs and downstairs neighbors must be on the same electrical circuit. Additionally, if you have high requirements for network speed and performance, powerline extender product may not be suitable.
Thanks for using Q&A.
Hello Dan,
The supplier has advised the following for the TP-Link TL-WPA4220 KIT AV600 Powerline Adapter Wi-Fi Booster:
"The WiFi extender in the TL-WPA4220 does not rely on your router’s wireless signal. It uses the powerline connection to receive data through your home’s electrical wiring.
As long as both adapters are on the same electrical circuit and the outlets are functioning properly, it will work effectively, even in a room beyond your router’s WiFi range."
Thank you for using Q&A.
Hello Loodles.
After checking with our supplier, they have advised for TP-Link TL-WPA4220 KIT AV600 Powerline Adapter Wi-Fi Booster.
Our powerline devices generally work with all routers.
However, for this device to work properly, you'll need to connect the included adapter to your router via the ethernet cable and then plug the extender on the third floor. Also, ensure that both your first and third floors are connected to the same powerline network.
Thank you for using Q & A.
