Yes, you can wait until January, cancel Duo, and then redeem the gift card—as long as you redeem it within 12 months of purchase.
While on Duo, you cannot apply the gift card.
After redeeming, you’ll be on Premium Individual for 12 months.

Yes if you buy the 12 month card by email from Argos, it will provide a full 12 months of Spotify usage from the day you activate it on a single individual Spotify account.
This is actually slightly cheaper for the full 12 months usage doing it this way as it is a slight discount on paying the standard monthly Spotify price every month.
