We use director chairs all the time in the garden for ease of storage, light weight and comfort but not always easy to get replacement covers. Having seen these at discounted price purchased two. They are not the best quality, as the best cost approx £200/chair and so £60 I paid for two chairs I think I should not grumble about.

You can, but it seems to have been treated with some kind of water repellent to keep it clean. If you wash it then it will most likely get dirty more easily, unless you re-treat it with scotchgard or something equivalent.

Our supplier says "Normally we don’t suggest removing the fabric, but if customer really wants to they can remove the fabric by themselves.
The fabric is fixed by a bar in the slot , you remove the bar , then you can remove the fabric."

The previous answer is incorrect. Yes it absolutely can - you slide out the end rods from the channel and then the seat and back slings can be washed.
