About this product
The Philips Hue Outdoor Motion Sensor turns on your Philips Hue lights automatically when somebody passes by. By connecting the sensor to your bridge via the 'Philips Hue' app, you can choose which lights go on, even inside your house - or choose the scene or light setting that should be triggered. The integrated dusk-to-dawn sensor ensures your lights only switch on when it is actually dark outside helping you to conserve energy.

A sensor that does what it says on the tin!
Although I ordered the sensor on the Argos app via click and collect from our local Sainsbury I had to purchase from elsewhere. When I went to collect it was a completely different product but the product numbers matched so obviously some internal system error. As this was a replacement for one which was damaged I didn’t want to take the risk of ordering from Argos again which would have been another 3 day wait anyway so asked for a refund and ordered elsewhere and received the next day. So I’m afraid Argos failed miserably on this occasion.

No sync module included
Bought this thinking it was a complete set. Sync module must be bought separately so it's a bit of a con. More expensive than other manufacturers because of the two purchases not one.

Integrates well
As with all the Philips Hue kit, it works well. A quick hint - set it up (if you can) close to the hub before placing it in the final position.

Excellent Outdoor detector
Weatherproof and works well with Alexa. Easy to install and no wires needed.

Great little addition
Used to worry about finding a torch before venturing out into the back garden at night. This makes venturing out to the back garden a pleasure. Easily detects motion even a good 5 meters out. Quick to set up, and looks sleek.

Looks good and works well
Using this on my garage to turn on some smart plugs and lights around the garage and drive. Works reliably and had no issues so far. It does have an IP rating which means it should be rain-proof but I haven't tested this as i've installed it somewhere sheltered. It has a solid build and comes with a few mounting options in the box. The instructions are sparse and shows no way of replacing the battery when it inevitably fails. Otherwise i'm very happy with this

Very sensitive.
Very sensitive to passing traffic and foliage blowing in the wind so you need to use the mounting bracket creatively and adjust the sensitivity carefully. But once set up properly it works very well on a garden path or a driveway.

Hmmmm
Problem overlapping with the hue lights room timer. If the motion sensor is activated the room light will dim before returning to previous state or switching off depending on setting. Best not to have any overlap so set the Motion sensor timer after the room timer has ended. The settings are not simple due to lack of instructions but maybe more on Facebook etc but for someone who doesn’t use social media, not for me. I have the Motion sensitivity set to very low to avoid passing cars, animals.

Works as described - but too expensive
These are a good unit on the whole, in that they are self-contained, they are easy to add to your network (although they consume one of the c. .50-55 device limit that each Hue bridge can control). Any limitations are more down to the Hue app - which you don't have to use as there are some third-party apps such as Hue Essentials which can take over control which helps. The big negative is the high price.
