Great kit won’t last for the 10 years as expected
Old stock at Argos so will only last for just over 8 years, buy from somewhere with fresh stock or direct from nest. Lesson learned for future

The Nest Protect was incredibly easy to set up. Once paired to the Nest app, it was a breeze to install, and even fitted the old screw mount for the knackered alarm it replaced.The reassuring green glow as I go to bed lets me know that the alarm is functioning. And, should I need extra surety, checking in on the automatic alarm tests couldn't be easier.We couldn't be happier with the Nest Protect and how little effort it took to gain peace of mind.

Fantastic bit of kit!
Easy to install, self testing, covers smoke and carbon monoxide in one. Easy to silence when you burn the toast! The night light illumination is a really useful little additional touch. No other smoke alarm comes close - 100% recommended.

Almost perfect
Once you've added the device your home WiFi, the installation and set-up is as straightforward as you could wish for. Getting the device on your network is another matter, however. First initialisation had me scanning the alarm and adding it to the app for almost an hour, either to be rejected immediately or watch the progress wheel spin endlessly. In frustration I packed it up ready to return - yet a second attempt the following evening had it in minutes. No issues on mesh wifi (VM Hub 3 with Tenda Nova). Use Fischer DuoFix 6mm wall plugs if you can, as they're a far better fix than the basic ones supplied. Once installed, it works a treat - detection is as good as anything by FireAngel, with the added bonus of a useful nightlight that picks human movement. That little ring of soft light is just enough to highlight stairs: perfect for the late night night stumble to the kitchen

Feeling Safe
10 years smoke and C02 protection. East to set up, used to link with Phillips Hue lights, but sadly this has been a discontinued works with hue items. Shuts Nest thermostat off if C02 detected, turning boiler off to some extent. A very good solution.

Yes. This can work without any other Nest Protect products other than this one, the app on your IOS or Android phone and your wi-fi router.

The Nest Protect complies with all the following smoke and carbon monoxide alarm standards:
EN-14604:2005 – Smoke alarm devices.
EN-50291:2010 + A1:2012 – Electrical apparatus for the detection of carbon monoxide in domestic premises.
EN-50271:2010 – Electrical apparatus for the detection and measurement of combustible gases, toxic gases or oxygen.

You could always buy an old cheap second hand Android Mobile handset or even an android tablet, No need for a sim card or contract for the phone........ Connecting via WiFi you can download the app and you will gain most of the controls. Should work a treat.
