The SureFlap microchip cat flap is praised for its durability, large size suitable for big cats, and effective microchip recognition to keep stray animals out. Some users find installation and instructions challenging, and the clicking noise can deter timid cats.

Reliability
Have one exactly the same for 7 years and a non-microchip one before that. Still working but looking a bit sorry for itself. Perspex window now rather scratched due to desperation when cat is not allowed out, also kitchen door has been moved twice with cat flap in situ during building work. My cat is large (7.0) kilos and gets in and out no problem. Have never had another cat inside. It looks good and blends in with white door. I have no hesitation in recommending it.

Battery issues
Bought a couple of weeks ago and disappointed with the temperamental nature of the batteries… they won’t stay in place and so the catflap stops working and cats are stuck outside. I have contacted customer support, but had no reply yet. I will be chasing a replacement product I think!

Cat flap
My cat is quite large but fits through comfortably. It is very durable although a bit of a faff to install.

Great catflap
Installed this a couple of weeks ago for my 2 cats that became too big for the old microchip cat flap. There's no template but it was pretty easy to install. By comparison to the 2 other catflaps I've had, apart from being larger, it's actually less drafty and the mechanism click is quieter which my nervous cat appreciates

Mixed review. Instructions are not user friendly.
I've used this cat flap for about 3 weeks. The instructions are not user friendly. The printed instructions are only an oversight in many different languages. If you have a metal door you need to download the full instructions, which are not easy to access. The same as if you want to use certain features, you need to use the online instructions. This would be much improved if the full instructuons were printed and included with the cat flap. I noticed last night that the cat flap had switched itself out of curfew mode, which means my cat was able to free flow 24/7 and I had to go through the long process of resetting the curfew. The clock on the flap would be more user friendly if it was in 24 hour format. I will be monitoring the flap from now on to check it doesnt remove the curfew setting again. Not the most user friendly cat flap. I have had better in the past. However, the size of the flap is much easier for my large cat to use and that was the main reason I purchased this pet door.

Easy transition from ordinary cat flap
My cat, who is very nervous, took to the microchip door easily. He was a bit wary the first few times he used it but after that it's been plain sailing. I'm really pleased because I expected major problems in getting him to use it. We had it fitted by a joiner so I can't comment on ease of fitting, but he didn't mention any problems. However this review won't let you submit until you've rated 'ease of fitting'. 4 stars is my best guess. It's great to know other cats can't get in as this has sometimes been an issue.

Brilliant
Excellent product. I thought it would be a bit technical and was ready for the challenge however, there wasn’t one, it was quick to register the cats chips, put their head into the tunnel of the door, wait for the click and it’s done, then install. The only issue was getting the cats to figure it out, got there in the end! Keeps all the neighbourhood cats out!!

Hello Carrie.
The supplier has advised the following for the SureFlap Microchip Pet Door
To install the SureFlap Microchip Pet Door in glass, you will need a mounting adaptor that covers the circular cut-out and provides a stable surface for the unit to mount correctly. The required hole diameter for the mounting adaptor is between 210 mm (minimum) to 260 mm (maximum), and it is compatible with holes ranging from 294 mm (minimum) to 320 mm (maximum) in diameter. It is recommended to use a non-metallic spacer around the cut-out to avoid interference with the microchip reader.

Hello GG,
I can advise the following for the SureFlap Microchip Pet Door:
They are still read the same and the set up is still the same regardless of age of the chip/cat.
Thanks for using Q & A.
As mentioned in the previous answer, the microchip detector is on the outside ie the tunnel side of the unit.
If you install it backwards it would work the way you want ie only cats with microchips could exit BUT there would be no restriction on incoming cats.
Hope this helps.
Hey Ellemm,
I can advise that this pet door has a "locked function" you can use to stop any cats using it during certain times or for a period of time etc. The door only opens outwards so fitting it the other way around will make it unusable if you have other cats.
Thanks for using Q&A.
See page 21, section 11, para 4 of the manual.

Hello Ingi,
I can advise when first setting up SureFlap Microchip Pet Door you will need to follow the below instructions:
Press the learn button ( cat icon ) The locks will open, allowing a pet to pass through in either direction. A further indication that the unit is in learn mode is the flashing of the icons on the LCD screen
The next pet to pass through the flap from either direction will have its microchip number stored in the memory.
Once a pet's microchip number has been successfully learnt, the pet door reverts to normal operation and the LCD screen will stop flashing.
Thank you for using Q & A
