The RSP500 is a solar powered battery maintainer for 12V vehicles. The low carbon, environmentally free way to maintain your vehicle battery when not in use. Ideal for seasonally-used vehicles such as caravans, classic cars, motorcycles and golf trolleys. Supplied with DC power plug and battery clips, Works in overcast conditions and is water resistant. Reverse polarity protection prevents damage if the clamps are connected to the incorrect battery poles.

Works and could be improved with optional OBD plug
Car was stood for months; battery dead flat. Got this and tried the cigar lighter socket. Mine only works on ACC key position, so, no use for overnight charging. I could have just gone under the bonnet, but bought an (on board diag's) OBD to lighter socket adaptor from a 3rd party, instead. The OBD plugs straight in, is forever live and connected to the battery. Left it for a couple of days - now at 8V from flat, and still going up. Wish I'd got the Ring Solar Maintainer before winter! Would be good if Ring had the OBD plug, as well as the crocs and lighter plug as an option. Still well worth it, especially if you hate getting under the bonnet, or getting rained on. Just pop inside the car under the dash, plug the OBD in, and let it do its thing; nice float charge and safe for the battery, too.

You need to make sure the engine is turned off and the car is secure however the battery can stay in place.

From the information we have available, I can advise the Ring RSP500 5W Solar Powered Battery Maintainer comes with a 3-meter power cable. This should be sufficient to reach from the boot of your Volvo V70 to the solar panel, allowing you to maintain your battery even if the dash socket turns off.
