Terrible Design - You'll Struggle To Cook With It
Construction is good. Cooker is easy to keep clean. But design is terrible - I cannot believe an engineer designed this. Certainly, whoever designed it has never actually used a cooker or prepared a meal or even talked to someone who has so they know how cookers are used. (1) The heat settings cannot be adjusted individually. One temperature setting is used to control the oven AND both hob plates i.e. all three are at exact same temperature - you cannot e.g. bake bread in the oven at high heat and meanwhile scramble eggs on the hob on low heat or cook meringues at low heat and boil water for pasta at high heat. You cannot set one hob plate to simmer while the other boils. You get the picture? It is 'all or nothing' - to cook on the hob while using the oven to roast or bake at 180C or higher you have to physically lift the pans on and off the plate to heat them to a boil, cool them down, then warm them up again. It is like cooking on a bonfire - this cooker takes us all back to living like cavemen. Why?!? (2) Accurate temperature control is impossible because the knob you turn to set temperature is not calibrated correctly. According to the dial markings you must turn it about 100 degrees clockwise from the OFF position to select 90C but it reaches 100C after a 10 degree turn because a pan of water on the hob reaches a rolling boil in a few minutes when the temperature dial is barely on. But if you turn it less than 5 or 10 degrees the cooker does not heat at all. You must be very careful if re-heating food as the rapid temperature rise means food will burn on the bottom of the pan unless you vigorously stir throughout the process and quickly remove the food as soon as it shows signs of reaching anywhere near boiling point. I have not even dared to cook porridge or custard as I just know it will burn the bottom of the food before it cooks the top. Everything, even reheating baked beans, needs to be cooked in a 'bain-marie' to stop it burning which is just bonkers. I assume this poor control of hob cooking is because the temperature dial was primarily designed for the oven so controls the difference between 90C and 230C better than that between OFF and boiling point on the hob. But even the oven temperature control is hit and miss - it gets very hot very quickly but does not make it easy to control heat e.g. to manage the browning of baking or slow cook a casserole for better flavour. The oven cooks like a flame-thrower not like a cooker. (3) There is space for four controls on the cooker control panel. Instead of useful, accurate controls to manage cooking on the hob plates, they used one space to provide a built-in timer which cuts all heat to both oven and hobs when it reaches its time limit. In the instruction booklet it warns users to 'never leave cooker unattended when in use' so what is the point of a timer? The timer is so pointless, the controls so useless to control cooking, overall this cooker is so unfit for purpose, it is almost a kind of ironic 'concept art'. What sort of cooker would Kafka have designed if he made ovens not novels? I think the best place for this cooker is as an exhibit in the Tate Modern. I wonder if it was designed by AI because it is the cooker equivalent of a fake video where everyone has three arms and six fingers on each hand. Meanwhile, I bitterly regret replacing my old counter-top cooker with this rubbish because my old cooker did everything perfectly for over a decade and I just bought new as I thought it was time for a change and wanted to freshen up my kitchen. I advise others to try to see this cooker in store before buying so you can examine the controls for yourself and think about the limits imposed on use by the weird choices the manufacturer made and see if it will actually meet your needs and let you cook your meals the way you want to.
