I was disappointed with this purchase. The copper band around the base as a design feature is not as dark or noticeable as it looks on the photos. The walls of the kettle are very thin and heat up to a level which will burn you if you touch. It loses lots of heat. It does boil reasonably quickly and quietly but the water cools again very fast. I think plastic works better for insulation and I wouldn't choose a metal kettle again unless it was double wall insulated.

Bought this to replace an expensive Bosch kettle. What a great choice! Very elegant shape, a round base tapering to a square top. The black and stainless steel finish is very smart. There are two water level gauge windows which are visible for both left and right handers - unlike the Bosch gauge which was obscured by the handle and very hard to see. The kettle is quiet and fast boiling, especially when only heating one or two cups. Once again, a vast improvement on my old Bosch kettle. I am very happy with this purchase and it's a stylish and great addition to my kitchen.

Having checked the manual for the Russell Hobbs Luna Quiet Boil Grey Jug Kettle 23211, it does advise: If you want only 1, 2, or 3 cups of water, fill to the 1, 2, or 3 marks inside the kettle.
