Never had one before
I am not very impressed with dictation machine I have not had one before though, I found I have to use ear phones to listen to what was recorded which is very low otherwise I have volume on full maybe this is normal for dictation machine

Great product
I use this product for learning lines when I'm in a play. Recording is easy, deleting files is great and battery life is long.

Handy device for dictating my fiction writing
I bought for dictating a fiction book that I'm writing. The device is simple to use and the output quality is good enough for automatic transcription directly into my writing app. The internal mic works well enough, but tends to pick up plosives when speaking directly into it. I purchased an external lapel type microphone, which helps reduce noise.

Not meeting my criteria
I don't like it It turned on automatically

Clear sounds, light weight
It is good but there are sounds of air flow in every recording.

Hi there,
An external microphone can be connected to this Philips DVT1250 8GB Dictation Machine using the jack on the top of the device.
Thanks for using Q&A.
Hello there,
This Philips DVT1250 8GB Dictation Machine has both pause and stop buttons - if you pause recording and then continue then your dictation will continue seamlessly from your previous one. You can also manually stop recording with the stop button.
Recordings are stored as separate files.
Thanks for using Q&A.
Hello Pat1604,
I can advise the following for the Philips DVT1250 8GB Dictation Machine:
Apologies, no, but you could do this over speaker phone and set the recorder near the phone.
Thanks for using Q & A.
Hello Sanjay,
From the information we have available, I can advise the Philips DVT1250 8GB Dictation Machine does not support Bluetooth connectivity for playback. It primarily uses a USB 2.0 port for data transfer and connection to a computer. For playback, you can use the built-in speaker or connect headphones via the headphone jack.
Thank you for using Q&A
Hi PA,
The Philips DVT1250 8GB Dictation Machine does not have Bluetooth but there is a headphone socket to connect wired headphones.
Thanks for using Q&A,
Hi kraken
Witha 2000 hour capacity, you can add to the end of the last recording on the Philips DVT1250 8GB Dictation Machine, however, this is not possible in the middle of a recording.
Hope this helps. Thanks for using Q&A.
Hi Ben,
Thanks for your query about the Philips DVT1250 8GB Dictation Machine.
Yes you can connect an external microphone to this device via the jack socket (stereo jack, 3.5mm). The recording source will switch automatically from the internal mic to the external one when you do so, they don't record/run together. The user manual doesn't specify that it works only with certain types of microphone, e.g. a table mic, but for a lavalier lapel mic or something like that, you would need to consider the settings on the dictaphone as you may pick up clothing noise and movement in a way that a table mic would not.
Thanks for using Q&A.
Hi dibdob,
Thanks for your query about the Philips DVT1250 8GB Dictation Machine.
You can set its noise reduction function to reduce the background noise if you're in a location where this could be an issue. You can also set the sensitivity for when the sound source is further away.
Without knowing the size, distance, and normal levels of ambient noise in the location you'd be using it, I'm unable to be precise on the quality of the recording but it could be used in a classroom.
Thanks for using Q&A.
Hi there,
Yes, there is microphone sensitivity: low sensitivity (shorter distance) and high sensitivity (longer distance) within the settings.
Thanks for using Q&A.
Hi Sam
The voice activation system will indeed work at 20M.
I hope this helps :)
Thanks for using Q&A
