EFFICIENCY
Date 19th February 2026. I bought this in January 2026 so it has had only very limited use so far. I gave it a test run to check it was in good working order so this report is based on about two hours actual working time. It assembled easily straight from it's packaging and everything fitted together easily and worked first time around with nothing missing or damaged. I then tried shredding some reasonably well seasoned timber branches from last season- all well within it's rated capacity and I can say that it did a very good job. It then adjusted easily to cope with the smaller hedge cuttings from last year and did everything asked of it efficiently and quietly. In fact a neighbour came round to see me and immediately commented how quiet the machine was in operation. No necessity to wear ear muffs!. So after two hours of use to date I can say that I am well satisfied with it's ability. Only time will tell how well it lasts but I do have high hopes that it will continue to work well. I had no problems hauling it around my garden area - around an acre in size- and it does have a reasonable length of cable attached and I already have plenty of appropiate extension cables. Operation controls are obvious and worked without any problems

Great garden tool, best buy!
I bought this shredder to mulch dead wood around trees. It was better than expected! Super safe, with dead lock systems on the receiver box and on off switch. You can change the setting to shred small or large chunks. Very quick to chip and you have a plastic tool for pushing the vegetation into the chipping chamber. Another safety feature. Once assembled the shredder is very easy to move, just tilt and wheel.

Of very little use.
Very disappointed. It does not shred green wood and it takes a long time to shred anything really. Would search for a better make if we had time to do so. A waste of money. Only used it once .
Disappointed
excellent product
bought this item and it is excellent

REALLY easy to use!
Very happy with this shredder. Getting slightly older (65 next birthday) and not having to cut all the branches by hand is brilliant!

Good shredder for the DIY job
Brought to this a month ago after giving the tree a hair cut and realised that all the cuttings would take forever to load a drop off at the local tip. Wasn't that quiet but still wasn't too loud to require ear defenders. One annoyance is that the shredding ends up on one side of the collection box so often had to stop to give it a shake. It shredded the medium branches well however it didn't have much affect on the thin twindly ones. Overall happy with purchase and will continue to use it in years to come fingers crossed.

Excellent
Had a big hedge to cut down this was a game changer shredded thick branch's easily as a bonus the shredded material filled my raised beds saving trips to the tip. Only three stars for design as the top part is secured with screws would be much easier with clips

Hey John,
I can advise that the blue top part screws onto the black lid, so it cannot be dismantled when not in use unless these screws are removed each time.
Thanks for using Q&A.
Hello.
The S28ES Crushing Quiet Garden Shredder - 2800W is not suitable for bars of soap.
Thank you for using Q&A
The dryer the better.
Hello there,
After checking with our supplier, they have advised for the Spear & Jackson S28ES Crushing Quiet Garden Shredder - 2800W: ''No it is not vital that the branches are completely dry, but it is better if they are. Wet material may be more likely to clog the cutting wheel.''
Hope this helps.
Thank you for using Q & A.
This machine looks similar to the one sold by B and Q.I have found that it handles laurel branches effortlessly, however if there is a lot of top leaf growth it can sometimes cause blockage, resulting in having to remove the end cover to clear it Laurel leaves are slightly sticky .
Hi Kaz,
The Spear & Jackson S28ES Crushing Quiet Garden Shredder - 2800W easily tackle garden waste up to 42mm in diameter. The crushing action powers a rotating drum that pulls the garden waste in where it is crushed into chippings or mulch, as long as the laurel is no thicker than 42mm diameter it will be fine.

Is the box closed properly as otherwise the machine will not work? Don't have any other suggestion.
Hi Jerry.
The Spear & Jackson S28ES Crushing Quiet Garden Shredder - 2800W is intended for tackling garden waste such as hardwoods and dry branches.
It is not intended for softer plant matter e.g. leaves, so is likely not suitable for your needs.
Thank you for using Q&A.
This brilliant machine will cut anything up to 6 CMS in diameter, green or brown. Just be patient with feeding material thorough the machine.
Not sure if you'll be able to feed weeds into the shedder if you can it'll deal with them as long as they are thick enough

Any standard garden extension cable will do.
Hello Chris,
I have spoken to our supplier who have advised as follows:
The Spear & Jackson S28ES Crushing Quiet Garden Shredder cuts to around 3cm - 4cm pieces.
I hope this helps.
Thank you for using Q&A.
I do find that branches thinner than, say, a pencil sometimes manage to escape being cut but I think that depends on the actual cutting setting. My shredder is set so it does not cut too thin. Any branches that 'escape' I simply break by hand and throw them back on to the garden with the rest of the shreddings. Nothing wasted!
Difficult one to answer, as it depends a lot on the material type. Some dry material it will literally crush into tiny pieces whereas green and hard brown material it will chop into 2cm pieces.
Chops them into roughly 3 cm square pieces although the larger branches tend to get flattened and end up like a belt
