If you are on a "part-fibre" or standard "copper" broadband service with EE, you need to use a microfilter between the wall socket and the modem cable.
The 5-metre ADSL modem cable will plug directly into the microfilter and your EE hub

although these may have rj11 male to male connectors the connectors themselves are very tiny compared to a regular sized rj11 connector that bt supplies with its kit for adsl connections i had this cable and although it did fit into my pre filtered socket it was loose and moving to the left and right no tightness just loose and wobbly infact the cable itself ending up causing me problems with no internet at all had to change cable over
