Nest Protect looks for fast-burning fires, smouldering fires and carbon monoxide. It tells you what and where the danger is, and it can send an alert to your phone. So you can know more and worry less.
Everything Nest Protect does – speaking instead of beeping, giving a gentle Heads-Up so you can catch problems early and alerting your phone – is designed to give customers the information they need when they need it. No more beeping and chirping. It's time for a better smoke alarm.

Google nest
A very well made product. of a night it detects your movement and lights up to allow you to see in the dark it can also be set to do a self test at a certain time you set. also the ring glows green to let you know it’s all working correctly having said that you won’t really know how well it works until you get a real situation but hopefully that will never happen finger crossed 🤞

Hi Blondie,
You don’t need a subscription to use the Google Nest Protect 2nd Gen Smoke and CO Detector. However, you do need a free Google account to set it up and manage it through the Nest app on your mobile phone.
The device connects to your phone via Wi-Fi, allowing you to receive alerts and manage settings directly from the app.
Thank you for using Q&A
Hi A2,
No, at the time of writing there is not a Google Nest that complies with Scottish government guidelines.
Thanks for using Q&A,
Hi Janise
It is battery operated.
I have checked the user manual for you and this is what it says about how many to install
The National Fire Protection Association
(NFPA) recommends installing a smoke
alarm in the following areas:
• On every floor, including finished attics
and basements.
• Inside and outside every sleeping area.
• At the top of the first-to-second floor
stairway and on the basement ceiling near
the entry of the stairs.
• In homes with more than 1,000 square feet
(93 m2
) on one level, additional alarms may be required
I hope this helps

Thank you for your interest.
The Nest Protect will let you know when it needs new batteries. It will glow yellow and you will also get a notification on your app (up to 6 months in advance).
You can find more information on our website, if you look for two articles called; "How to replace Nest Protect's batteries" and "What type of batteries should I use with Nest Protect and where do I get them?".
HI there,

Hello Pete,
It doesn’t control heating. This will be amended on the website. If it detects Carbon Monoxide it will tell your Nest Thermostat to turn off.
