Yes they do! I scanned in my hearing test results and they worked right away best thing I. Ever bought! You can also take the hearing test on your iPhone but I found it fiddly. It was much easier to scan in my hearing test results

Not sure why you think it comes with a lanyard. The picture that shows whats in the box does not show a lanyard.
Amazon sell magnetic lanyard for the actual airpods for 3.99
