Buy a different toaster
Bought a 4-slice toaster as one family member is gluten free and in previous toasters we allocated two slots to gf bread only. In order to use slots 3&4 of this machine slots 1&2 MUST be engaged. Apparently this is a design feature to “enhance energy efficient and lower energy consumption” across Brevilles toaster range. Utterly annoying as of course you can only find out about this feature once you’ve unboxed the blessed thing. Should have bought the cheap Asda toaster. Only keeping it as we also bought the matching kettle (new kitchen) and mercifully Breville haven’t managed to mess up that design with their “enhanced energy efficient” nonsense.

While it is technically possible to use toastie bags in the VTT974 toaster, we do not recommend doing so. This practice is not in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the instruction manual, and using accessories not approved by the manufacturer may affect the safety and performance of the appliance.

Hi, no - the handle on the right, marked as 1, needs to be pulled down first for the one on the left, marked as 2, to work.

The heating elements are on both sides of the bread slot and both are in use when heating up. There is no possibility of toasting one side only.

BREAD SLOTS 1 AND 2
Always use bread slots 1 and 2 when toasting one or two slices of bread. The nr. 1 symbol above the loading handle indicates that this should be the first handle to be engaged.
BREAD SLOTS 3 AND 4
When toasting more than two slices of bread, use slots 3 and 4 in addition to slots 1 and 2. Lower the handle marked nr.1 first, then lower the handle marked nr.2 . Loading handle nr. 2 will not latch unless loading handle nr.1 is already in the latched position.

If your toaster is within the guarantee period (12 months from the date of purchase) and you have your receipt or any proof of purchase you can take your product back to the place of purchase directly. They will then be able to help you with either an exchange, replacement or a full refund.
