These are designed as a single frame so would not be suitable to do this with due to maximum user weights etc. There would also be no way of keeping them together so they done part in the middle.

Double mattress. But make sure it a think one because the metal slates can be felt through a thinner mattress. Other than that you can put a sheet of wood on top of slates
