About this product
The Habitat Chiltern Spindle Bed Frame gives you that solid, restful night's sleep in a superking size that's got room for two to stretch out properly. It's made from solid wood with an oak veneer, so you're getting natural strength and those lovely grain patterns that make each frame unique. The headboard's built from turned wooden spindles with a carved top bar, that's classic British style mixed with the clean lines of Scandi design. Full-length legs are part of the frame itself, keeping everything stable and sturdy underneath you.
The base has sprung wooden slats with reinforced central posts, that's proper mattress support and lets air circulate to keep things fresh. There's 20cm space under the bed, so you can store things or hoover without crawling around. It fits a UK standard superking mattress and supports up to 220kg total weight. Self-assembly's needed, and you'll want two people for it. All the fixings and instructions are included.

Headboard broke apart after four nights. Awful.
What a waste of time, effort and resources. The Chiltern bed is basically meant to ape the look of an Ercol bed but without and of the strength, stability and integrity that comes with the quality woods and craftsmanship of Ercol. The Chiltern, which I bought in Super King size, is very lightweight rubberwood or similar with a dark stain. As soon as it was built I noticed how much flex there was in the headboard and footboard, and how shallow the rail was. Sitting up in bed on the first morning I heard a "snap", the next morning a second "crackle" and on the fourth morning a loud "pop" as the prefabricated cross support of the headboard just snapped completely. It appears the first two noises were glue joints failing and the last catastrophic break was the headboard coming apart as the cross pieces were fitted without any dowels, relying simply on butted pieces glued together. To their credit Argos were quick to accept the return, but I received no confirmation from them at any stage of the return process until I saw the funds magically appear in my account a week or so later. Please do not buy this bed frame.

Purchased for spare room. Very attractive bed, easy to assemble with no issues. Especially liked the slight curve in the headboard! Seems to be fairly well made with no squeaks!

Perfect for a narrow space
This bed was perfect for my son’s bedroom which is narrow and only had a couple of cm each way of a double bed length and so we were struggling to find a frame that would fit in the space. My husband assembled, and it had to be assembled horizontal from its final position due to how the legs slotted together and needing more space, but we turned it so it was on its end (foot not head end of the bed), pivoted it into place, and between the two of us lowered it down slowly and it fit. Perfect for anyone struggling to fit a bed length ways into a narrow space.
