Slow, fiddly and poor picture - returned to store
Replacing a 2017 LG of similar budget (but going blue) and was really looking forward to trying a TCL. Responsiveness - every action was so slow, even initial setup to get to the point of seeing TV program took over 30 mins. The Amazon/Freely combination really making the interface very cluttered with settings distributed across locations (and limited). Channel increments took a second or two, guide took 5-6 seconds to show anything then lazy loaded so a second or two every page scroll. TV picture (BBC/ITV HD) was full of mpeg artefacts and jerky scrolling text - I couldn't decide if forced to use streaming source rather than aerial, even though tuning done and specifically selected aerial source. Xbox source just looked oddly blocky/low res. Viewing angles fine though (worried because of some bedroom angles and the screen tech used). Yes, it's a budget set, and speakers represented that. All I can say is worse than old set being replaced. Tried a few times to 'like' it on Christmas Day (son's present) but by 6pm we packed it up ready to take back. Replaced with LG (similar price) and that's a world apart, much better picture/responsiveness/interface. Argos instore were good/simple to swap without hassle (the prime reason for using Argos TBH, though prices good this year).

Good picture but glitchy
Glitched setting it up and had to reset to factory, worked after that but it repeatedly came up with a fault when using the Amazon prime kids profiles. It was a lovely touch to see them available during set up but I’ve had to delete them to get the tv working as it should. Great picture but as a ease of set up and glitches just meant it has taken a lot of time to get right and I’m a little nervous of all the problems resurfacing

Don’t buy, very poor tv and slow
This tv was faulty, anything you plugged into hdmi and the screen went blank, the remote wouldn’t work properly, and since it was a fire tv just don’t buy it was so slow to load and even changing channels was slow, I was talking to another retailer and they said don’t buy them as they are slow if you want fire tv then buy an ordinary tv and buy fire stick separately, picture quality was ok sound for being Dolby atmos was very poor, my advice avoid this tv at all costs, there better ones out there for same price.

Had this bought for me as an early Christmas gift, after our old TV died. First one we received was faulty, and TCL customer service weren't much help due to it being a gift. Argos were brilliant though. Replaced it quickly, and second one works a treat. Great TV for the price. Great picture, refresh rate, and features. You'd be best getting/using a sound bar, as the TV sound is meh.

Yes. It has a built-in DVB-T/T2 tuner for Freeview, so you can connect a standard TV aerial directly and watch free-to-air channels. Just plug in the aerial and run a channel scan in the settings.

It is unlikely that the TCL 50 inch TV will have the xbox app directly installed. Currently, the Xbox app for streaming games is only officially supported on select LG TVs with webOS 24 or newer, select Samsung 2020 and newer Smart TVs, and select Amazon Fire TV devices.
