Why do peripherals have to be such a faff
The good first: coming form an Oculus Rift CV3 the image quality is infinitely better. Unfortunately, it's downhill from here on. If I want to play any games in VR mode they have to be installed via SteamVR or they just don't work. For me this means no Elite Dangerous, no Flight Sim. I'm told this can be sorted by forking out another 18 quid for an app called Vitrual Desktop but after shelling out over half a grand for this thing, why should I then have to pay more to make it work? The comments I've read about this on Reddit are vague at best so I could end up spending the money only to find out it still doesn't work, so I haven't pulled the trigger on that just yet. In mixed Reality mode, image quality of the "real world" is poor at best, although when I recorded a test video of me pottering about the house the playback quality was fine, so I'm not really sure why it has to be so fuzzy when you're just walking about. To summarise: hardware-wise it's all there - can't be beat, but the implementaion falls horribly short of expectations. In the good old days, if you bought a peripheral, such as a joystick or steering wheel, it was just that. You weren't tied to someone's ecosystem, you just installed the drivers and away you went. They didn't come with their own app store or OS, they just worked; the functionality was built into the software you already had. Why's it got to be so different with VR? Would recommend reservedly, dependiing on expectations.
