I found that the sides caved in when the pool was half full. It also has to be flat and not on a slight slope because this makes the sides cave in too

"In terms of the Bestway 4ft Fun Odyssey Pool it is essential that it is filled to 90% capacity as this ensures that the pool will stay up and in place."

They have a tendency to kind of collapse in on themselves if less than about half full, but it doesnt need to be full to the brim. It will still hold the water, but just the weight of the stiff edges falls in a bit.
As long as theres about 10cm or so I think it would be fine.
