Hello there. The Argos Home Metro Solar Lamp Post requires 1 x AA battery that is supplied. This needs to be set into battery compartment at the point of construction and is accessible from the top of the lamp. Thanks for using Q and A.

Our supplier has advised that, to access the Argos Home Metro Solar Lamp Post on/off button, you twist the roof slightly anti-clockwise and remove, you will see the switch near to the LED bulb, on the underside.

The lamp can be placed on a grass, we recommend a flat surface. It comes with some screws to allow fixing to a secure surface.

The Argos Home Metro Solar Lamp Post - Black, does have an on/off switch. You would only have to switch it on the once as the light automatically comes on when it is dusk so you do not have to keep using the switch. If you can see it on the lamp this will be the one you use.
