Great 1ltr Kettle Shane about the taste
Lovely 1ltr kettle and it does boil quite quickly. Only downside… you really do need to boil the kettle at least 10 times to lose the smell and taste of the “new “ kettle. Added some lemon juice to the water before boiling to finally lose the metallic taste.

Chemical smell
Bought to replace an identical one which died. Could not get rid of the chemical smell from the kettle. Boiled many times and used white vinegar and Bicarbonate of soda as suggested, still not able to drink the water because of the odour and taste. Returned to Argos, very helpful staff and purchased a Russel Hobbs kettle. No problem at all with this one.

Lovely kettle
I've had the kettle a few weeks and it looks good and works really well as some other reviews mention, it pours really well too. A really good combination of a kettle that looks good and is good quality at a low price. The 'new' taste people have mentioned was evident but is not different to the sort of thing you might notice if there's a new hotel kettle or a new mug etc. It didn't bother me.

I bought this kettle 2 weeks a go it still tastes of plastic iv put lemon juice in and bicarbonate soda it's taken its time to go a way

After checking with our supplier, they have advised for the Cookworks Illuminated Kettle - Brushed Stainless Steel: If you are referring to the rod located at the back of the kettle by the handle this is the steam pipe. It is to direct steam to a biometric strip thermostat which automatically switches the kettle off when the water boils.

It has TWO water measurement windows.
The Argos colleague is wrong. I purchased one of these literally about a month ago and can confirm there is a water window on both sides!
