I am so impressed with this bit of kit. I had a pile of old accounts and banking paperwork to dispose of. Felt that I needed to shred it just in case. Tried to find a local shredding service without any luck. Luckily found and took a chance on this shredder. Thought that for this price it would be worth it just for this exercise alone. It has far exceeded my expectations. The 12 sheet claim is rather far fetched, but it will rip through 4-5 sheets no problem. Once you get the pace you can feed it almost continually. It does overheat occasionally but take a break and it is good to go. I would highly recommend it.

A good buy
Bought a couple of weeks ago and had a big job shredding old bank statements. It copes with everything you throw at it but I kept it to 8-9 sheets at a time. It jammed a couple of times but the reverse gear is very effective and didn’t cause a delay. Over-heated once but cooled quickly. The bin fills quite quickly but I suppose that’s what happens when you shred paper! The handle for the very heavy shredding machine was a real boon - it came off once but re-attached easily. Powerful and sturdy machine, well pleased.

It has a seperate slot and a seperate box to catch the pieces but I have never shreaded a credit card or CD. It is an excellant quality product and I would recommend it.

The run time of the ProAction 12 Sheet 25 Litre Card and CD Cross Cut Shredder is based on the motors temperature:
"Your shredder is fitted with a safety device that switches off the unit in event of overload. Should the unit stop working, turn the unit off and unplug from the mains. Allow the motor to cool down to room temperature (approx. 30mins) before resuming operation."
This means that if the shredder is in a well cooled room, and doesn't get very hot, and you keep within the sheet limit you will be able to use it indefinitely until finished.

I have had 2 of these shredders they both failed when a cutter bearing ran dry. You cannot oil this bearing without dismantling so dripping oil in and using lubricating paper is a waste of time.

"Please don't spay any flammable gas or oil on this shredder, it may cause a fire."

Yes, every time you empty a full bin. Hold the reverse button and apply just a little vegetable oil dripped along the length of the cutter, use a teaspoon. It’s not advisable to use WD40 type sprays or 3 in 1 oils as they are flammable.

Unfortunately I had the same problem. To be honest it was almost impossible to get intouch with anyone at Argos for help. In the end I took it to an electrician who confirmed it was the sensor which recognises when paper is inserted into the shredder. They were unable to repair it. The shredder was only just over a year old but had worked very hard so I
purchased a different make which is more heavy duty. Sorry I can’t be of more help.

I had this, at first looking I didnt think so, but then poking with a knife I realised it was, it was a real pain - struggle to dig it all out. If its not that , then its faulty. Argos are usually very good with returns for faulty items. Just contact them. Tbh, I had two of these, they both packed up I ended up getting refunds for both - after several months of owning them.

it shreds in both direction.
I often use the Reverse system to clean up whatever paper that may want to ''hang'' along the line. it works perfectly well
