This was to replace an old dog flap, which was a different make. It was extremely fiddly to fit, the nuts that go on the bolts are really very tiny and the bolts are not screw-top, so it was difficult to tighten the nuts because they kept turning.

After checking with our supplier, they have advised for the PetSafe Staywell Original 2-Way Pet Door - Medium White: Normally rectangular dog flaps are not suitable for installation into glass.
Some of our concerns for installing dog doors in glass is due to dogs impacting the pet doors and surrounding areas at a greater speed and force than cats. This would cause more stress on the glass which could be magnified by using a larger cutout and a rectangular cutout due to the stress concentrations at the corners of the cutout.

The PetSafe Staywell Original 2-Way Pet Door - Medium White is designed for pets up to 18kg (40lbs) and has a flap opening of 238mm x 218mm. Given that your cat is 17 years old and not very strong, it might be a bit challenging for her to push through the flap, especially if she has any mobility issues.

Please click on View document (PDF) at the bottom of the description this shows that the flap can be removed and gives instructions how to do this for a replacement flat which will also be the same if you wish to take the flap off and put it back on. (Replacement Flap Fitting Instructions)

“This model will fit doors and walls up to 2" (50 mm) thick. Tunnel (included) cannot be extended. The cutout is 28.1 x 23.7 cm - so no this model will not suit. ”

Regarding the PetSafe Staywell Original 2-Way Pet Door - Medium White. PetSafe petdoors that need a rectangular cut-out, are not recommended to install in Glass of any type or version.
