After contacting our suppliers they have advised for the Argos Home Toby Faux Leather 2 Seater Recliner Sofa - Brown.
The backrest will recline at the same time the footrest is raised. It is not possible to just raise the front.

For opening the metal lock, use a wrench or screwdriver to pry up the black “switch”. Then the backrest can be removed.
