After checking with our supplier, they have advised: The box is wind up not battery operated. If the lid is opened the music will play automatically until it requires winding up again.

Its a windup music box but like all windup music boxes if you don't wind them up they won't play music when you open them :)

no - the box is not solid wood, you cannot print a full colour image of this quality directly onto wood. The item is made of MDF board wrapped in a laminated paper with the design printed on.
