Though children can vary in size, even at the same age, this is very much for younger rather than older, teenage children. To measure the head using a soft measuring tape, measure around the circumference, across the forehead just above the eyebrows, above the ears and around the back of your head.

The supplier has advised the following for the Cross Kids Bike Helmet - Pink:
The straps are adjustable, it fits heads from 55cm to 58cm. Without knowing the head size of the child, we cannot advise of it's suitability but it would be OK if the 9 year old's head size fitted within that range of suitable sizes.

The visor for this just clips on at the sides. It has little plastic prongs on its inside face that you push into the helmet.
