R1S grabs attention with its flawless look and sound. With tactile curves, exclusive Light Cream finish and Composite wood hand-crafted grille, R1S exudes fresh contemporary design. The grille material is created from woods, which are carefully spliced, coloured to closely mimic the rich tones of slow-growing hardwoods. The cabinet and grille blend perfectly with the trademark Roto Dial controller and new colour display to create a feel that encapsulates the technical capabilities of R1S.

Glad I bought it
Bought the R1S (a graded one) from Ruark a couple of weeks ago and all is well. Looks to be as new and functions as it should. An improvement of a Revo Domino D3 that was showing it’s s age. The R1S does everything I want it to do and picks up internet stations well (8 presets is a bit tight though).

A companion to put a smile on your face
Keep this in mind when you are buying any radio: it will probably last 20 years. So invest in something that not only does its job, but makes you smile each time you look at it too. The Ruark1S fulfils both of those requirements: it is a perfect marriage of function and form. What I love most is that it can function - if you want it to - completely independently of a mobile phone. Even from 50 paces using the remote, you can turn it on without using your phone. You can even use Spotify to some degree without your phone. But, if you want to Bluetooth in from your phone, you can. Sound quality is incredible: you will hear sounds on old tracks you have never heard before. Yes, it has buttons, but do not doubt the Ruark R1S's high-tech credentials: the app is a pleasant surprise. You do not need it, but it opens up more possibilies. Should you buy the model with the internet radio? Yes. You never know when you will want to tune into the Voice of Greece, some Gambian tunes or a station in Miami and the internet receiver is another way of catching local stations too. Lastly, 'rising up' not 'along' the Ruark R1S does not take up much space making it perfect for a kitchen or bedroom. And the charming wooden grille alongside the AMOLED screen - that just about sums it up. The Ruark R1S captures the best of the old world and the new world in one radio. If that does not put a smile on your face, nothing will.

Fantastic music box ...
This little box does exactly what it says on the tin. All the functions work well and the sound quality is quite astonishing. Bought it for our motorhome and it's perfect.

Great all-round radio with excellent performance
I purchased the R1S to replace an aging clock radio. We own a Ruark R2 model, so we knew the sound quality, reliability and features of the radio. The sound is full and rounded especially with voices and it is a treat to listen to music, albeit in mono through the speaker. Positioning of the unit is easy as it does not impact on the sound quality. The volume is quite loud for such a small item. Using the Oktiv application is easy to set up the unit, but I would like the presets to be handled within this app rather than another third-party application. Physical connectivity is good covering most bases but the omission of Apple Airplay and Tidal is a pity. I also had to engineer a work around to play from these services on the Ruark R2 model. It was a surprise that I could not send from the radio to another Bluetooth speaker for added convenience. Another gripe was having to purchase a remote control- considering the upper price range of the model. Overall, we are satisfied with the performance and features of the radio and would recommend it to prospective purchasers looking for a top-quality radio.

Why did we wait.
We had been looking at this model for the home office as has a remote to adjust when need to lower volume. It looks good as well taking up little room. Brilliant sound and easy to connect to WiFi for Spotify.

Top Quality
This is my second Ruark product,so I had a fair idea of what to expect,and like the R2,it is just lovely to use,lovely to listen to,and lovely to look at. You get what you pay for,and that’s the case here. So easy to set up and easy to use,the classy dial on top sees to this,it makes everything simple. Finally,the sound,it is so rich and never struggles when the volume goes up,so whatever function you’re listening to,be assured,you’ll be hearing it the way it was meant to be heard.
