The Ruark Audio R1S DAB and FM Smart Radio is a complete music system combining digital radio, Wi-Fi streaming, and Bluetooth in a compact unit that fits on a kitchen counter, bedside table, or desk. With DAB, DAB and FM bands, you get clear reception and 8 preset stations for your favourite shows. The Composite wood hand-crafted grille and tactile curves give it a fresh contemporary look, while the Roto Dial controller and colour LCD display make switching between stations or streaming services easy.
Wi-Fi streaming supports Spotify Connect, Amazon Music, and Deezer, while Bluetooth 5 connects to your mobile for other services and remembers up to 6 devices. It has a USB port, AUX input, and headphone socket. Delivering 9 watts RMS with bass and treble controls, it's ideal for bedside use with alarm, sleep timer, and RDS scrolling text. We love our new smart radio, the ability to connect with spotify without bluetooth, use your phone on a call at the same time as spotify is so clever. Moving radio stations is so easy. Plus it is a neat unit that blends in and looks smart in our kitchen. Best radio i have ever had .

Wow…amazing sound
Just bought this 1 month ago to replace an old dab radio. What can I say the sound is phenomenal (for such a small product) all features are amazing. I use the internet radio feature as I live in a poor dab reception area ( which I get a better reception than my old radio) Spotify is also a great feature. This is a great compact music centre packing a great sound and good bass. Filling the room with great clear sound ( dinning kitchen)

Best Ever Radio
This is quite simply the best radio I have ever owned. The sound is excellent and it is very easy to set up and use. The small size and the price point were also major points in its favour for me. I am listening to the Proms 2026 season on it both via DAB and Bluetooth/BBC Sounds. My previous radio had problems coping with BBC R3's dynamic range so I was perpetually having to reach for the volume control but this Ruark is broadcasting the sound beautifully.

Just what I wanted after a lot of research
Radio arrived beautifully packed and easy to operate. Very quick to detect my wifi and load stations. Looks lovely on my table in the lounge.

Great sound, slightly fiddly controls
I bought my R1S as graded as I couldn't afford full price. It doesn't have any visible defects so I'm happy with that. The sound is great as expected. I just wish it had a few buttons for single press channel change. My older intempo radio has this and it's so easy to switch between favourites. With the Ruark it's fiddly and involves putting on glasses, pressing favourites and turning the rotary dial. That's my only criticism.

Another great Ruark product
The R1S is my third Ruark Audio product, my previous purchases being a R4i Mk. 2 and a R1 Mk. 3 both of which are still going strong after several years. The sound and build quality of the R1S is to Ruark's usual high standard, but I find the aerial to be a bit looser/wobbly than on my other two, although this does not seem to affect the unit's performance.

Shall list them again - a line out to plug directly to one’s amp / av receiver - more preset stations - bigger screen In summary build a standalone true Internet Radio/Tuner w/o cd player & speaker In fairness to your sound questionnaire , I haven’t played the product as a standalone. So can’t rate it. Will later& inform. I am using headphone line in to play through my hi-fi system.

Hey, I use my R1S for everything!
My R1S has been with me for only a couple of weeks, and what a versatile hit it is - let us just accept that the sound quality is excellent (I use FM radio a lot) and mention a few other things. Firstly, the Oktiv app for a remote on your iPhone might be a little clunky, but it is extremely handy and I use it every day. Secondly, it is ever so useful to have a charging port on the back of the R1S - I also use that every day for two or three devices. Thirdly, I use Bluetooth for my tiny old Sony Walkman, enabling me to access my huge classical library in the bedroom, delivered at wonderful sound quality. I should add, lastly, that the R1S looks a beauty.
