The Argos Home Charles armchair gives you a comfortable spot for evening reading, catching up on shows, or settling in after a long day. It's a manual recliner with leather and leather-effect upholstery in a two-tone grey finish that works with most living room styles. Pocket sprung foam filling in the seat and cushions provides support that holds its shape through regular use. The reclining function lets you lean back and put your feet up when you need a rest. It's built for one person, with a seat width that fits comfortably without taking up too much floor space.
The recliner operates without batteries or plugs, with manual control of the angle. Fixed seat and cushions keep everything in place, no shifting or adjusting. It's a sensible height for getting in and out, with arm rests at a comfortable level. Specialist cleaning recommended for the upholstery. “ For separating the back of the chair from the base, Using a wrench or screwdriver to pry up the black switch from Figure 1 to Figure 2 (in the manual), and the backrest can be removed. ”

The Home Charles Leather Mix Manual Recliner Chair - Grey is supplied in four sections; the seat base unit, back rest and two arm cushions.
The arm cushions are zipped onto the base unit and then the back rest is clipped into place. Assembly is then complete.

Thank you for your reply, but removing the backrest requires you not just to pull it out but also to release two catches at the bottom simultaneously. It needs two people to do that, using small screwdrivers to lever the catches open. This is my answer to my own question, having had to work it out.
