It's possible but you would need to connect to the phone by the end of the day to offload the data. You wouldn't then be able to see notifications off the phone while it's not in range.

Our smartwatches uses multi axis inertial sensors called accelerometers, these detect wrist movement and the walking motion to measure step count.
Please use the step count as a guide only, When completing activities such as cleaning, driving, pushing a pushchair, holding a pet’s lead, or using walking aids, this may or may not detect steps as a natural walking motion is not being detected.
