A travesty of style over substance

I bought the Russell Hobbs Luna 2 slice long-slot toaster on 19 August 2026. I've been using it for a couple of weeks and I can't say I'm impressed. The very least one could ask of a toaster is that it makes decent toast. I, like many people these days, am short on kitchen worktop space but enjoy sourdough bread, which IMHO makes the best toast. This particular model seemed to be a perfect fit for the job, nice styling, slim at only 14cm wide but offering a single long slot to take 2 standard slices but also wider/longer slices from boule style loaves. Not only does the toaster not toast a wide slice evenly but on the same setting it will not toast two slices to the same degree. It is frustrating to see a slice with burnt ends but an untoasted middle being produced by a machine whose primary function is to toast bread. In my opinion the uneven toasting is because the heating elements are not evenly distributed, there is a gap in the middle of the toaster heating elements and some elements lie flat while some are looped outwards. This might have made sense if there was some kind of regular pattern to the flat/raised heating elements but there isn't, the arrangement appears to be completely random. In my opinion simply a result of poor manufacture. Russell Hobbs was established in 1952, after 74 years you'd think that they'd know how to produce and test a toaster. This particular model is a travesty of style over substance.

Matching toaster.

Bought a couple of weeks ago to match the kettle . Browns well but the slots could be larger. Doesn't fit the the larger sized sliced bread. Width and length ways. A good inch of the bread doesn't toast.

Rubbish

Looks cheap, will not accept a Warburton slice landscape and portrait leaves 30mm not toasted. Argos refused to refund due to a minute crumb found inside. Contacted Russell Hobbs who did not want to know as the toaster was not purchased from them. Destined for the bin.

Difficult to toast two slices at once

I am disappointed that unless you put the toast side on, which means you can only toast one slice at a time, the toaster is not deep enough for the whole slice to be toasted. Appearance of the toaster is good but design should have been better.

Easy to use and attractive

A really nice toaster, both in appearance and function. The control buttons are clear and actually work first time. My old one had 6 buttons with no clues as to their purpose so you’d have to just randomly press them until one worked. I still have to set the temperature right but the toast wasn’t too burnt. Wide enough to accommodate 2 halves of a hot cross bun with no catching or scorching. Very pleased with my purchase.

Recommend this toaster

I shopped around for a suitable two-slice toaster and this stood out as it accommodates to normal slices in one long slot. It is also just deep enough to accommodate the height of standard sliced bread. A long slice of sourdough is easily accommodated in the long single slot. The polished steel and copper look is attractive and the toaster is quite light. You can use a button to look how the testing is progressing without interrupting the cycle. It is also quick to toast. Cannot comment on longevity as we have had it for only a few days. So far it has been excellent and value for money as we got a 10% voucher also so paid only £36.00!

Perfect Size

I bought it because it fits very snugly into a narrow slot in my very small kitchen. It is perfect.
